Community involvement

Community Events and Civic Development Projects

Waltham City Hall Holiday Decorating

Members decorate the interior of Waltham’s City Hall for the holiday season. This is a tradition that many in our community can see and appreciate.

Memorial Garden

A memorial garden to past members of the Waltham Garden Club has been established at the site of the city’s Archive Depository and Historical Center.

Waltham High School Prom Flowers

Each spring, members work with the Waltham High School senior class members to create table centerpieces for the Senior Prom.

Waltham Day on the Waltham Common

The Club participates in this free event on the Waltham Common by providing activities for kids, as well as sharing gardening tips and information. Free seed packets for fall planting.

Gardening for FUN at Sheepshearing Festival at Gore Place

Members host a tent with children’s activities such as seed planting, digging for potatoes in a bark mulch “Potato Patch,” and making plant-related arts and crafts, as well as distributing hundreds of seed packets to visitors.

Annual Plant Sale

Every spring, Waltham Garden Club members separate and pot up their own perennials to sell to the public.  Buyers can be assured that all plants are appropriate to our climate, and members are on hand to describe the plants and answer any questions. Seeds collected from members' gardens are free to all.

Festival of Trees

Members contribute to the decoration and donation of a themed holiday tree for Massachusetts Horticultural Society's annual fundraiser at Elm Bank. The beautifully decorated trees, donated by various community groups, can be viewed by the public during the festival and visitors can vote for their favorite tree and enter a raffle to win one.

Waltham Garden Club Scholarship

The Waltham Garden Club Scholarship for $500 is available to high school students who currently reside in Waltham, Massachusetts. Students are eligible if they attend Waltham High School or any other four-year accredited secondary program. For more information click here.
